Steyning attended the first of three tournaments that make up the Horsham and District Girl's Football league, played on the astro turf at Tanbridge House School, Broadbridge Heath. Fourteen teams took part, with each team playing five games on the first evening.
Steyning A hit the ground running with a convincing win over Kingslea A by four goals to nil. This was just the start they needed and followed this up with four more wins, conceding no goals thoughout and ending up with a goal difference of plus fourteen. Steyning B were not so lucky winning one of their games, losing to their counterparts three nil and losing the others by solitary goals. Steyning C, our Year 5 starters, battled hard but their lack of knowledge about playing the game hampered them against the top sides. They did manage one nil nil draw but the greatest cheer of the evening came when Lila scored against Castlewood. Just brilliant.
I was so proud of our girls as they always play hard but fair and their sportsmanship and teamplay is incredible. Credit should also go to three Year 4 girls who played for the first time ever and showing just how great they will be next year.
