Steyning hosted the annual Year 5 & 6 Chanctonbury Cluster Cross Country Finals on a very warm day in October. Each school fielded a Boy's and Girl's team, with six people running but only the first four counting towards the overall team total. This is always a hard fought contest with the winning team coming out on top by the slimmest of margins and this year was no exception.
First up were the Year 5's with the girls running first. Steyning ran well as a unit finishing in second, seventh, eigth and ninth but they were narrowly beaten by St Peter's, Henfield. Next came the boys with an outstanding display, finishing with four boys in the first seven places, which meant that the scores were even ahead of the Year 6 races. Everything was on the line in the following two races with finishing positions changing minute by minute as ther ran around the course. In the end strong performances from bothe the girls and boys from St Peter's, Henfield meant that they took the title for the first time narrowly ahead of Steyning. Both however will represent the Area in the Southern Area Finals in 2019. This was an excellent display of tactical running from all involved and all must take credit for their performances.
