Steyning Girls Football Team attended the second Albion Cup competition held at Culver Road, Lancing which is the FA Headquarters for Sussex. We took two teams, sixteen players, who played four games in a round robin event. Our "Blue" team started with an incredibly close game against St Wilfreds, which in the end was decided by a single goal against the run of play. There next match was much tougher and Georgia Gardens with their electric centre forward romped to an emphatic win. They then drew the next match, creating chances but not managing to finish them off and lost the last by a goal.
Our "White" team however, started off with two one nil wins over The Oaks Primary and St Nicholas & St Mary, plus a decisve victory over Manor Field. This meant if they could win or draw the last match they would proceed to the semi finals. Steyning dominated the game and rained shots on the opposition goal, but one breakaway goal decided the match in favour of Leechpool. Overall that meant that Steyning missed out on the semi final by one point, very hard to take after such great performances.
Praise must go to all the girls who played, as their sportsmanship was excellent and their determination and teamwork shone through.
