Jolesfield Primary School hosted the annual cluster Benchball Competition for Year 4. Ten players, five boys and five girls are in a team and they have to get all their players on the bench by passing the ball, abiding by netball rules, and throwing to their Goalkeeper to catch. If they catch it cleanly, and stay on the bench, then the player who has thrown the ball joins the goaly. When it gets to the last player they have to go to a line, approximately ten feet away, just over 3 meters and throw the ball for anyone on their bench to catch. If they do the game is over.
Steyning started off with a close fought game against Jolesfield which they won by getting more players on their bench than the other team. Next up were St Peter's Henfield, who are always strong. This was a well thought out game by our players, who played to a stratergy and stuck to it. By now the passing was getting quicker and the defending was top notch. Again we won this by almost having our complete team on the bench. Last up were Upper Beeding who stuck to their task but were overcome by a now full flowing Steyning team, who won with a throw from Theo Edmonds to the bench.
Well done to all who took part, but especially for their sportsmanship and teamwork during the tournament.
