Steyning Hockey Club played their first Intra Tournament to prepare the players for the Horsham League fixtures later this year. Due to the amount of players in the club they were split into six teams, with a competition for Year 6 and another for Year 5 and then they were divided into two divisions, all refereed by students from Steyning Grammar School who come and help coach on a Friday night. Their help is brilliant as the younger players look upto them as all bar one, used to play for our school.
All of the games proved to be exceptionally close, with every game being settled by one goal.
In the end "Yellow" team won the Year 6 section by winning both of their games but there was a three way tie in the Year 5 section. So there was no other way to settle this than by a penalty shootout, with an older student in goal. Blue, White and pink all had one Year 5, one Year 6 and an older student for their three penalty takers. This caused great laughter throughout with Blue and pink finally ending on three goals each. Nothing could seperate them.
This all bodes well for the future tournaments and for Year 5 next year when competing fully in the Horsham League
